Central Iowa Area Health Education Center

Health Professions Student Training

Central Iowa AHEC provides quality clinical training opportunities for health profession students at local community organizations, clinics and hospitals. Health profession students who participate in Central Iowa AHEC sponsored clinical placements have a better understanding of the complex needs of underserved communities. The goal is to provide real-life experiences that bring health disparities to life for our students, who see first-hand the needs of uninsured and underinsured patients. Each placement provides many situations for students to develop their skills and knowledge under the direction of a practicing health professional.

Central Iowa AHEC works with universities and health professions training programs from across the state. The Central Iowa AHEC recruits preceptors, assists students with selecting the community-based experience that meets their needs, and assists with student housing when necessary. Central Iowa AHEC provides communities the chance to build relationships with these future health care providers and recruit them back to practice locally.
